Homeland

Homeland is a senior living community adjacent to Notre Dame Maryland University (NDMU) in the Homeland neighborhood in northern Baltimore City. Known for its picturesque and historic character, the neighborhood features early 20th Century architecture—mainly Tudor, Colonial Revival, and French Norman-style single family homes—with stone facades and slate roofs, and is centered around several small lakes and parks, creating a tranquil, suburban feel within the City limits. Homeland is on the National Register of Historic Places and is known for its strong neighborhood association, tree-lined streets, and proximity to private schools and institutions, such as NDMU and Loyola University Maryland. Notably, Homeland Senior Living will be the first University Retirement Community (URC) situated on a college campus in Maryland.

A collaborative effort between Brightview Senior Living, the Homeland Association and community, and the University, the project is being designed as a contextual independent and assisted living and memory care community that leverages the proximity of both NDMU and City amenities for true intergenerational interaction. Located on 3.7 acres, Homeland will include 170 total units—98 independent living (IL), 48 assisted living (AL), and 25 memory care (MC)—offered in a mix of one- and two-bedroom residences. The community will also feature a range of spaces such as a pub and cafe, media center, spa, fitness center, outdoor gardens, and secure dementia care floor.

With direct access to the NDMU campus, residents will be able to engage with the University’s Renaissance Institute, a program catered to lifelong learners over the age of 50, as well as open opportunities for faculty and students with programs in the community’s art studio, fitness and wellness spaces, or guest lectures or performances in the multipurpose room.

This development represents a true win-win — creating local jobs, strengthening the neighborhood and allowing longtime residents to remain close to the people, institutions and places they love. It’s an innovative model that reflects our commitment to thoughtful growth and community connection. – Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott
