Hord Coplan Macht (HCM) is proud to announce that it has been honored with three American Architecture Awards. Presented by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies, these awards are the nation’s highest and most prestigious distinguished building awards program that honor new and cutting-edge design in the United States.

“We are thrilled to receive this recognition for our work,” said Scott Walters, Principal and Design Leader in HCM’s education studio. “These projects reflect our belief in the power of place—shaping environments that inspire students and educators, foster connection, and elevate the entire campus experience.”

The awarded projects are:

Radford University Center for Adaptive Innovation and Creativity

The Artis Center for Adaptive Innovation and Creativity at Radford University fosters interdisciplinary collaboration to enhance student experiences across professions through creative and innovative learning opportunities. By merging the medical arts and sciences with visual and performing arts, the center enables transformative educational experiences. Whether through standardized patient simulation exercises or large-scale emergency and disaster drills, the facility creates a unique intersection of disciplines that enriches both students and faculty.

DC Bilingual Public Charter School Classroom Addition

(Honorable Mention)

The DC Bilingual Public Charter School addition is an illustrative celebration of vibrant histories, cultures, and futures. In response to this feedback and the needs of the school, the addition’s design focuses on three key goals. First, the proposed addition respects the historic nature of the existing school building while celebrating DC Bilingual’s future and ethos as a vibrant Latin American bilingual culture and campus. Second, the addition intentionally creates strong indoor-outdoor connections to encourage and highlight learning and achievement. Finally, the addition and its site prioritize occupant and community safety and welfare.
