Mullen High School North Academics Building

This classroom building was the first piece of an HCM-designed master plan to renew the entire Mullen High School Campus. The North Building contained numerous general classrooms on two stories as well as breakout space, meeting spaces, offices, and a lobby that celebrated the history of the Mullen School. The building included Next-Generation instructional spaces for the school as well as much-needed swing spaces to begin the full transformation of the campus.

The design focused on biophilic elements such as natural light, natural colors and patterns, filtered light, and outdoor connections. Research showed that these features contributed to student success, high academic and testing performance, reduced anxiety, and an increased ability to focus. Additionally, Catholic symbolism referencing the Holy Trinity was evident in the physical architecture.

The Mullen Master Plan envisioned modernized LaSallian Catholic High School facilities that redefined the school’s campus setting and created meaningful outdoor spaces along with the new facilities. The concept for the redesigned campus followed the lead of the “Enter to Learn, Leave to Serve” mission at Mullen.
