Legacy Hall, Morgan State University

As the final component of the Thurgood Marshall complex, Legacy Hall redefines the student residential experience at Morgan State University. It is more than just a place to live—it is a launchpad for academic growth, social engagement, and entrepreneurial ambition, reinforcing the university’s commitment to student success and innovation.  Designed in partnership between HCM and Moody Nolan, Legacy Hall serves as the final piece of the Thurgood Marshall residential complex, introducing 605 new student beds within an 11-story, 184,000-square-foot high-rise. Designed to enhance student life and academic engagement, the building integrates modern living spaces with dynamic, program-driven amenities that foster community, innovation, and entrepreneurship.

Legacy Hall is thoughtfully designed to complement the existing Thurgood Marshall Hall, reinforcing a strong residential identity while activating the campus experience. Its contemporary architectural language reflects the progressive vision of Morgan State University, with a facade that balances transparency and solidity, leveraging high-performance glazing, masonry, and metal paneling to create a bold yet contextual presence. Vertical articulation and carefully curated material selections provide a sense of rhythm and scale appropriate to its high-rise form, while welcoming entries and activated ground-level spaces contribute to a pedestrian-friendly environment.

The ground floor serves as vibrant extensions of campus life, housing a range of student-centered spaces that go beyond traditional residential offerings:

  • Seminar Rooms and Classrooms – Flexible academic spaces that support group study, workshops, and small lectures.
  • Morgan’s E-Sports Program – A dedicated facility that integrates competitive gaming with emerging career pathways in technology and digital media.

The upper floors are dedicated to student residences, offering a mix of room types that encourage social interaction while supporting individual well-being. Units are designed to maximize natural light, provide efficient layouts, and create a comfortable, modern living environment. Common lounges, and fitness rooms are strategically placed throughout the building to promote academic success, peer connection and lifelong fitness.
