Blackwell Hall at Salisbury University is undergoing a transformative renovation to become a dynamic gateway to campus. As the first impression for prospective students and a vital resource for current students, Blackwell Hall’s design will enhance its connection to the surrounding campus fabric. Positioned between historic Holloway Hall and modern Guerrieri Commons, the renovated structure will create seamless pedestrian flow and establish inviting outdoor spaces that encourage interaction. A multistory atrium will serve as a striking and transparent entry point, reinforcing Blackwell Hall as the university’s front door. Ensuring accessibility and intuitive wayfinding, the renovation will provide clear, welcoming entry points and modern circulation patterns to accommodate all users.
Environmental stewardship is integral to the project, with an emphasis on preserving the university’s Level 3 Arboretum status. The renovated Blackwell Hall is slated to become one of the first net-zero buildings in the University System of Maryland, operating with no net carbon footprint.
