University of Virginia Health System, Outpatient Procedure Center

HCM was integral in renovating and expanding a tired Ambulatory Surgery Building into a new Outpatient Procedure Center (OPC) for the University of Virginia Digestive Health Department. The mission of the OPC is to take ambulatory patients from the main hospital and create an environment designed specifically for the patient experience for elective procedures.

HCM completed a comprehensive infrastructure upgrade and total reconfiguration of the first floor of the OPC to support a new program including: an endoscopy procedure suite, a motility procedure room, and an electro-convulsive treatment suite. The project also included improvements to the existing waiting and support areas and renovation of the administrative space on the second floor of the building.

As a part of the design process, research was completed related to patient satisfaction scores and workflow enhancements. Patient satisfaction is now in the upper 90th percentile at the new center, with important notes on the physical environment and patient/staff safety.
