The world-renowned R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center (STC) completed a major expansion and renovation program. Hord Coplan Macht led the design for the phased renovation performing planning, user group meeting coordination and facilitation, design, and construction administration.
The work involved a highly complex, phased design of new facilities for STC. The scope of work included major infrastructure improvements for four ICU and three IMC units totaling 68 patient rooms, and associated support spaces and circulation. The third floor ICU unit was designed to be used as an isolation unit, which included custom designed HVAC infrastructure to vent directly outside. The entire ICU is designed to support the trauma center which includes pediatric patients. The project also involved coordination with the design architect responsible for a new vertical expansion including multiple floor-to-floor connections between the new and existing buildings.
