The existing Soda Springs park is situated in the heart of Historic Downtown Manitou Springs, Colorado. Working closely with the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, as well as the community, the master plan update focuses on activating the under-utilized west end of the park with new play features and climbing structures for the under served pre-teen and adolescent age groups. An expanded plaza was designed with flexible seating and gathering spaces for the existing historic pavilion that hosts year round events ranging from hundreds of people for performances and fairs, to thousands for the nationally acclaimed Pikes Peak Marathon. Accessibility and a place to interact with Fountain Creek was also incorporated and improved for people of all abilities. The project included a phasing plan and cost estimates to assist the community with documentation for a GOCO Grant submission and the implementable strategy based on CIP funds.
