Hord Coplan Macht provided programming and space planning services to renovate the Pathology Laboratory Department of Sinai Hospital of Baltimore within its existing department boundary. This boundary grew out of the original hospital laboratory into a significant addition built in 1990 to expand the chemistry, hematology, pathology, and cytology work areas. Hord Coplan Macht created a masterplan design that could be accomplished across three phases, including multiple sub-phases, to allow the lab to function continuously during renovations and pause between phases if needed to accommodate budgeting. The outcome of this design consolidated the department, limited delivery access into the department, improved flow of the main corridor past the department and provided better separation between administrative (clean) and diagnostic (dirty) areas of the laboratory.
