HCM is providing planning, concept and schematic design services for a new inpatient tower and OR suite at the MyMichigan Health Hospital in Alpena, MI. The building serves as the new main entrance to the hospital. The main goals for the project were to provide a better patient experience by replacing all the existing shared patient rooms with private rooms. The first floor includes the main patient entrance, registration, Central Sterile Processing, a replacement Surgery suite with five ORs, two procedure rooms, four PACU bays, and 19 private prep/recovery rooms.
The second floor provides 30 beds; including a labor and delivery suite, with 6 LDRP rooms, and two postpartum rooms. Also included in the suite is a C-section OR, a nursery, triage rooms, consult rooms, central nurse station, and other support spaces. The remainder of the floor is occupied by the medical surgical unit, with 22 beds and support spaces connecting to the existing hospital.
The third floor provides an additional 30 beds, eight of them are critical care beds, and 22 are intermediate care beds. The patient floors have a hybrid nursing model, using both alcoves near the patient rooms and central nurse stations distributed on the floor. The patient room toilets are outboard to provide
maximum views and accessibility for staff into the patient rooms.
HCM collaborated with a local architect who was responsible for the construction documents and administration portion of the project.
