Mercy Health Services wanted an outpatient medical center that offered Primary Care and specialty treatment services while also doubling as an office for personal physicians.
When the design process started in August of 2014, the client came to Rick Abbott and Sean Hughes, Principal-in-Charge and Project manager, respectively, requesting that the plan for the building give each physician his or her own space. The resulting plan was based on a pod concept where each physician is allocated an office, a medical assistant workstation and either two or three exam rooms. This design allows the physicians to personalize and take ownership of their space. The pods and the rooms within the pods are designed around a standard modular dimension which allows for future modification and growth.
The 26,800 sf building is actually a renovation of an existing detached grocery store. The renovation included replacing all of the existing mechanical systems and upgrading the existing electrical systems. Exterior upgrades included canopy modifications, window replacements and building branding elements. The project was designed to provide numerous outpatient services to the surrounding community. The services include primary care, specialty care, imaging (MRI, CT, X-Ray), and lab/blood draw.
Mercy Personal Physicians Center at Glen Burnie was completed February of 2017.
