Lake County Elementary is a new replacement elementary school serving Lake County School District. The school was designed around the concept of “Learning Beyond Walls”, and features a modern take on a historic design, in order to complement its surroundings. It will offer a gym, open commons area, full-service kitchen, indoor Early Childhood Education (ECE) play area, and classrooms organized into expeditionary-themed “neighborhoods”. Site amenities include an outdoor ECE play area, outdoor learning communities, a multi-purpose play field and parking.
There is over 40 feet of grade change across the project site, which caused challenges in meeting the client’s goal of a one-story school. To combat this difficulty, the design team worked closely with the civil engineer to develop site retaining walls and internal ramps.
Lake County Elementary is a BEST Grant-funded project, and is Green Globes certified.
