Dental Advanced Simulation Hub, Anschutz Medical Campus

The CU Anschutz School of Dental Medicine recently opened their new state-of-the-art Dental Advanced Simulation Hub (DASH) to provide hands-on experience practicing dental skills for dental students prior to working on patients. The new dental lab includes 42 student simulation stations distributed across eight collaboration pods that support either four or six student stations at each pod. Each pod operates as a sperate dental clinic, with each student working on different skill sets. Each simulation station includes compressed air, power/data, dental tools, and manikin heads. The lab also includes scanning stations, and radiographic tube heads. A central instructor station provides space for group collaboration and hands on instruction and demonstration. A separate dispensary room provides storage for general lab supplies and sterilized dental tools and trays which are checked out to students for each lab session at a counter between the lab and dispensary. The sets of dental tools included in each tray are customized to allow students to practice a variety of dental skills. At the end of each session the tools are checked back into the dispensary for transfer for sterilization.

The lab also includes a milling room that includes milling machines and furnaces for the creation of simulated crowns and other dental work.
