Hord Coplan Macht’s Baltimore Office is the first WELL Gold Certified, New and Existing Interiors, project in the state of Maryland.

Hord Coplan Macht (HCM) announced today that their Baltimore office is the first WELL Gold Certified, New and Existing Interiors project in the state of Maryland. The office, in the Candler Building at 700 E. Pratt Street, was awarded WELL Certification at the GOLD level by the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI). This prestigious distinction was awarded through IWBI’s WELL Building Standard (WELL), which is the premier building standard to focus on user’s health and wellness through the buildings where we live, work, and play.

As the largest architecture firm in the city, with nearly 200 local employees, it was important to create a beautiful and sustainable space that valued the wellbeing of every employee. The 33,769 SF interior build out supports the culture of flexibility, collaboration, and creativity that is highly valued at HCM. Centrally located near public transit and bike lanes, the new office features numerous collaborative work areas, outdoor views and natural light, a fitness center in the building, and a daily supply of fresh fruit for all employees.

WELL is grounded in a body of evidence-based research that explores the connection between the buildings where we spend approximately 90 percent of our time, and the health and wellness impacts on the people inside these buildings. The WELL Building Standard is a performance-based certification system that marries best practices in design and construction with evidence-based scientific research. Hord Coplan Macht earned the distinction based on seven categories of building performance- Air, Water, Light, Nourishment, Fitness, Comfort and Mind.

To be awarded WELL Certification by IWBI, Hord Coplan Macht underwent rigorous testing and a final evaluation carried out by Green Business Certification Inc. (GBCI), which is the third-party certification body for WELL, to ensure it met all WELL Gold performance requirements. The project also achieved Gold certification under LEED v4, CI, Commercial Interiors Rating System and recently won the USGBC Maryland 2020 Wintergreen Leadership Award in the Innovative Design- Interiors category.
