Every year, Hord Coplan Macht invites high school students to participate in Architect for a Day, a one-day program geared towards cultivating the next generation of architects. The program includes an introduction to the design profession, a tour of our office spaces, one-on-one discussions with HCM team members, and a visit to an active construction site. Participants have gone on to major in architecture and other design programs, with some even returning for internships and full-time employment!

Over the years, Architect for a Day has grown in popularity, expanding to include multiple offices, new design professions, and more interactive workshops.
“Going into our 8th year, we were excited to begin planning yet another successful event! However, the onset of COVID-19 in 2020 forced us to put our plans on hold” says Melanie Ray, an Associate in the Housing & Mixed-Use studio and member of the Student Engagement Committee. “It was unfortunate that we weren’t able to host an event last year, but that gave us time to revamp our program and accommodate an even broader audience in 2021.”
In response to the demands of virtual learning and the continuously changing landscape for student outreach, HCM has introduced the new Discovery Studio taking place on October 29, 2021! What’s different about this new program? For the first time, students from across the country will be able to participate in one program.
Join HCMers from across the country for this one-day virtual workshop that introduces students to the design professions. Apply today, space is limited!
