Help Nurses Help the Smallest Patients: How Infant Care is Reorganized
Hord Coplan Macht Principal Jim Albert, AIA, ACHA, LEED AP recently spoke at the 2012 Healthcare Facilties Symposium and Expo in Chicago, IL. This session detailed how the renovation program of highly specialized space incorporated a unique and bold method of distributed nursing. By replacing a central nursing station with alcoves located directly outside patient rooms, the hospital provided increased privacy for visitors, encouraged more interaction among nursing staff, and also improved patient safety and security. In addition, the renovation further encouraged family centered care by adding amenities such as a family resource library and improved play areas.
