This session, Creating Senior Communities–Caring for People, Profit, and Planet: An Assisted Living Community’s journey to LEED Gold, was presented at the LifeSpan Conference in Ocean City, MD, looks at the recently certified LEED Gold project of Brightview South River Assisted Living in Edgewater Maryland, and how sustainability positively impacts the triple bottom line – people, profit, and planet. The story is shared from the perspective of Shelter’s Senior Project Director, the Architect and Sustainability Coordinator, and the Executive Director at the community. Topics include the vision for sustainability, implementing that vision through design and construction, and the impact of the sustainable strategies when managing a green community.
