Change can be scary.  But whether or not you are afraid of it–change is inevitable. What is scarier than change itself is the prospect of not recognizing when it is happening, and then failing to respond in a positive, appropriate way. As we move through the 21st century, the changing landscape of education is something none of us can afford to ignore. By first understanding WHO the 21st-century learner is, and then embracing the ways that THEY are learning, we can create a transformative environment, where students WANT to be active participants. This interactive workshop examines the most fundamental of learning spaces–the classroom. By first identifying a more descriptive and appropriate way to refer to this space, then by developing prototypes that capture the essence of 21st-century learning, participants of this session will use a participatory approach to rethinking the classroom, and will contribute to developing more creative and relevant learning environments.
