UMD is one of the most unique campuses in the US. Originally envisioned by world renowned architect, Paul Rudolph, the campus is based on the idea of an agora of learning with residential neighborhoods around it. The master plan proposes new first and second year communities with a mix of academic and student life spaces situated close in to the core resulting in a more connected community. Planned renovations of the original Paul Rudolph buildings will make them more useful, transparent, and vibrant similar to the renovations of the Claire T. Carney Library.
Hord Coplan Macht worked with designLab and Carol R Johnson Landscape Architects on the master plan update.
