“what will attract students”
Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida was founded in 1960 with an idea of holistically addressing students through the mind, body, and spirit. The campus was laid out with three zones initially which have expanded into the campus of today overlooking Tampa Bay. Much of the campus was built during the 1960’s through the 1980’s and the facilities were showing their age which made it difficult to attract students. In 2001, President Don Eastman arrived and instituted a transformation of the campus starting with getting the faculty and community to see the potential of the beautiful tropical campus. He commissioned a master plan which integrated the original founding planning principles. This along with the theme “Think Outside” has been successful in attracting more qualified students to the campus. Today the campus is attractive, financially sound, and continues to improve its reputation as one of the best liberal arts colleges in America.
Kevin King and Chris Rice have been trusted advisors to the college since 2002 while with Ayers Saint Gross and continue to work with the school through Hord Coplan Macht.
