Project Overview:
The new Core Facility is the first structure to be built as part of new Center for Maryland Agriculture, located on the site of an existing farm.
The center will be a resource for providing educational activities, supporting economic development to the agriculture sector, and promoting practices that enhance our natural resources.
The project is registered LEED-NC Silver and earned a 2009 ENERGY STAR Challenge Certificate of Achievement
The Center will ultimately be home to a variety of County, State and Federal agencies that are involved with agriculture. The new core facility is designed to house administrative and meeting spaces for several agencies, including the USDA Farm services agency, the County Soil Conservation District, the County Department of Environmental Protection and Resource Management, Maryland Cooperative Extension, Natural Resource Conservation Services and other related agencies and groups.
The facility follows traditional agricultural design ideas, such as a close connection to the land, the use of local and rural materials, and the incorporation of simple massing and forms.
