Hord Coplan Macht directed a multidisciplinary team to provide campus master planning through detailed site design for the $268 million regional hospital in Cumberland, Maryland. Located on a dramatic site with a mountain view, the 600,000 square foot hospital, medical office building and administrative buildings form a walkable campus that emphasizes pedestrian connections and access to outdoor spaces. A grand vehicular entrance provides access to a landscaped loop road which connects parking and service areas.

The main hospital entrance and vehicular dropoff are organized around a large formal park featuring extensive planting, lawn and comfortable seating. The dining terrace provides outdoor seating adjacent to the cafeteria as well as a connection to a staff entrance. The main conference room opens onto a large terrace.  The hospital chapel has a view to a landscaped terrace which is open to staff, patients and families in need of respite.

Hord Coplan Macht also assisted the hospital in developing a therapeutic and restorative garden to enhance the quality of life for patients and staff. Healing gardens provide many benefits to healthcare facilities as they nurture the needs of patients and provide respite for families and staff during difficult situations.
