The community will include office, recreation, shopping, restaurants, and housing all within walking distance. A series of four 5-story buildings include ground floor retail, second level office and residential units on the top three floors. All are to be served by a five-level parking structure completely wrapped by the buildings
In planning Elkridge Village Centre, it was important to develop a street grid system, public spaces, block types and unit types which would serve as a framework for subsequent redeveloped properties.
The frontage along Route 1 addresses critical urban design problems, such as turning street corners, providing parking internal to the block and the vertical mixing of commercial uses with residential. Housing types include townhomes, stacked townhouses, wrapped garage apartments and podium condominiums. The housing mix creates a diverse and stylistic identity that will contribute to a powerful sense of place for Route 1
