BALTIMORE– April 25, 2011Hord Coplan Macht (HCM), an architecture and landscape architecture firm, announced today that the firm has signed the American Institute of Architects (AIA) 2030 Commitment as well as the 2030 Challenge.

Recognizing the fact that buildings are the largest single contributor to the production of greenhouse gases, AIA has challenged design practitioners to exercise leadership in their role in creating the built environment.  The goal of the 2030 Commitment is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in both projects and in business operations, with an objective of carbon neutrality by the year 2030.

HCM’s dedication to environmentally-responsible design is a long-standing tradition within the firm, dating back to its founding in 1977.  In 2010, HCM was named the Transformative Firm of the Year by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) Maryland Chapter.  In addition, HCM has numerous projects certified by USGBC’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design program including the Baltimore County Center for Maryland Agriculture (LEED Gold) in Hunt Valley, MD and the headquarters building for Century Engineering (LEED Gold) in Timonium, MD.
