BALTIMORE– September 21, 2011 – – Hord Coplan Macht, in joint venture with The Freelon Group, has been selected to design a new Engineering, Aviation, Computer, and Mathematical Sciences building for the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES).  The $65 million, 163,350 GSF building will house several academic and administrative programs and will incorporate an architectural expression reflective of the mission, heritage, and traditions of this growing teaching, research, and doctoral institution.

UMES has experienced regular and significant growth in recent years, particularly in graduate programs, and this new project is a key component of their 10-year master plan.  Additionally, the building will further the University’s strong commitment to sustainability, and is expected to obtain LEED Certification at the Gold level.

“We’ve worked with the University of Maryland System on a number of projects in recent years and feel privileged to have this opportunity to help the University of Maryland Eastern Shore shape their campus for the future,” says HCM Education Principal Tom Spies.

“We are excited about the University’s commitment to design excellence and are proud to have been selected to design this important structure”, says Phil Freelon, President of The Freelon Group.  “Providing quality learning environments is central to our firm’s core values, and we look forward to working with the staff, students and other stakeholders to deliver an exemplary building.”
