Hord Coplan Macht Awarded Modernization of Montgomery County Middle School
BALTIMORE– April 10, 2011 – Hord Coplan Macht (HCM), a full-service architecture and landscape architecture firm, announced today that the firm has been awarded a contract for the replacement of Farquhar Middle School for Montgomery County Public Schools.
The new facility will be built on the site adjacent to the existing Farquhar Middle School, allowing the existing school to remain in operation during construction. Serving grades 6-8, the new 2-story facility will be designed to achieve LEED-NC Silver, with geothermal heating and cooling, a green roof, daylight harvesting, rainwater collection, and porous paving.
With the rural character of the community in mind, the school will share its uses within the cafeteria, media center and gymnasium. The 17.2 acre site will display new athletic fields, a 120-space parking lot, parent drop-off loop, bus loop, tennis courts and basketball courts.
