DC War Memorial on National Mall Unveiled
BALTIMORE– November 21, 2011 – – Hord Coplan Macht is proud to announce the re-opening of the DC War Memorial. Since August 2010, the historic Memorial and grounds have been under restoration through funding by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Under a term contract with the National Park Service, HCM led the team of preservation architects, conservators, cultural landscape architects and engineers in this intensive rehabilitation effort . Completed in 1931, the Peristyle Doric Temple, located on the National Mall in West Potomac Park, was built to memorialize local heroes who served the nation in World War I. The first war memorial on the Mall, the DC War Memorial lists all 499 District residents who lost their lives in the war, regardless of their rank, race, or gender.
